International Cookie Day for Human Rights
Started by a student at Avondale, this event occurs every year on December 10th which “marks the anniversary of the Assembly's adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948”.
The event is several-fold and includes:
Cookie Competition. Students bid to be the judges. Students and faculty can enter the competition by bringing in a batch of their favourite homemade cookies. A prize is awarded to the best cookie and it is the featured cookie in the bake sale.
Cookie Making Activity. The entire student body joins one of the Raise Your Voice demonstrators in making a batch of cookies for the bake sale.
Bake Sale. Cookies submitted for competition and made as part of the activity are sold during the lunch period.
All proceeds go to Human Rights Watch.
